Fasten the two cardboard pieces to the wooden strips by pressing down on each of the wooden pieces a few times with a staple gun. This will create a sandwich-like stink bug trap. The bugs will be drawn to the tight spaces and shelter of the trap.
Pick up the trap slowly after it has collected the insects, empty it into a garbage bag, tie the bag tightly and dispose of it. Alternatively, you can empty the trap into a bucket of ammonia water to kill the insects instantly.
Stink bugs are pests that emit an offensive odor as a self-defense mechanism. They do not harm the house or humans, although they can bite.
Be careful when handling bug traps. Wear gloves and masks to ensure safety.
Stink bugs are attracted to the color yellow.Hang yellow sticky traps that have aggregation pheromone on them to bait the stink bugs.Hang the yellow sticky traps from the lowest scaffold limbs around the perimeter of your garden. The stink bugs are attracted to the yellow sticky traps because of the color and the pheromone. They will stick to the traps and die. Check the traps once a week to dispose of them and replace if necessary.
Fill a bucket with hot soapy water, hand pick the stink bugs and drop them into the soapy water. The stink bugs will drown in the soapy water. Once you are finished hand picking the stink bugs, dump the water in an area away from your house. If you are unable to do so, pour the water in the toilet and flush to get rid of the bugs. If you have collected a large amount of stink bugs, drain the water by using a sifter, put the dead bugs in a plastic bag and throw in the garbage.
Lay the second piece of cardboard on top of the first, matching the edges. Staple the cardboard to the wood pieces to make a “sandwich,” placing staples about 4 inches apart, down the length of the wood pieces. This creates a cozy, narrow space for the stink bugs to crawl inside.
Garlic’s flavor and scent are very potent, and the odor that garlic emits can actually repel many types of insects, including stink bugs. To make a natural repellant, mix 2 cups of water with 4 tsps. of garlic powder. Pour the solution in a spray bottle and spray the solution onto the ground, plant leaves, doorways and other possible points of entry in the home. Repeat the application every two to three days to keep control of the insects.
